Under Pressure

The pressure is on! My first year of being a mature student is coming to an end and it’s time to get all those assignments finished and submitted. I’m swinging wildly between “Ah sure its grand, I’ve plenty of time”, to lying awake in bed panicking and scratching my newly erupted stress hives. I’m also fluctuating between wanting distinctions in everything and just getting something down on paper to scrape a pass.

But actually, this is not what’s stressing me out. I’ve had such a fantastic year, every day I’ve learned something new or met someone new or done something I’d never thought I’d be able to do and now I’ve a whole summer of being at home ahead of me.

I’m grateful for the privilege of having a lovely home and family but I’m really going to miss being in a creative environment surrounded by like-minded people who just want to do fun stuff and talk nonsense with me.

I’m trying to line up a few things to keep me busy over the coming months. I’ve kind of joined a band – well, we’ve talked about it extensively over pints – I’ve an election campaign to work on, I’ve a few home and garden projects to get stuck into. But really, I just can’t wait to get back into college next September. I just need to get through these endless assignments first.

My grandmother’s people were from Skerries and she inherited her Aunt Angie’s cottage in the town so I spent many summers there with my…

    Nollaig na mBán

My friend and I had 24 hours away together to celebrate Nollaig na mBán. We’re both musicians, we have both travelled extensively and we have both lived large lives. And now, we’re both parents to children with special needs.   In a previous lifetime, 24 hours away would have meant eating, drinking and partying on…
