StreetLife #1 – Show Notes

Louis Stewart – She Moved Through the Fair.
Parts of She Moved Through the Fair were first first collected by Herbert Hughes in Donegal in early 1900s. Herbert Hughes was a composer, music critic and collector and he included She Moved through the fair in Hughes Irish Country songs in 1909. It’s played here by local musician, the late great Louis Stewart from Greenhills.

Cormac Begley – O’Neill’s March
A tenuous link to our local streets here – this was recorded as part of the Other Voices “Courage” series in Kylemore Abbey. Cormac has an album due out soon with Liam O’Connor called Into the Loam. One to listen out for.

John Francis Flynn – Mole in the Ground
From the 2023 album “Look Over the Wall, See the Sky” a collection of trad music related to Dublin and Irish identity. I think I’ll be playing a few off this album over the next few weeks.

Moxie – Is Ainm Dom
No strictly related to our streets, but it does blend lots of different cultural styles including Irish, North African, South East Asian. From their 2021 Album Dawn in Motion

Nava – Tehran
An Irish band, exploring ancient cultures of Ireland & Persia

Ganavya – Land
From her newly released album Nilam which means Land, this song is called Land.

Zarathust was composed by Richard Strauss. The initial fanfare “Sunrise” was used in Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey

Frank Zappa, Cosmic Debris
Check out @treacherouscretins , Featuring Robert“ Bobby” Martin original #mothersofinvention member. They play in Dublin every year around April time, another great band worth checking out.
