And we’re done…

The last assignment has been submitted and so, just like that, year one is done.

It’s been a tough year, learning how to balance the dramas of family life with my precarious health, full-time college, keeping the house up and running and the family fed, but it’s been great too. I’ve had so much craic and learned so much that I don’t even really care what results I get in my assignments. *

I’ll be using the summer months to regroup, replenish and prepare for next year’s adventure. We’ve a new tent to try out, we’re heading to Donegal for its debut outing. A few days minus the kids in Utrecht to see the amazing Donny Bénet and, of course, the annual pilgrimage to the Belgian Beer Festival in September.

I also have notions. I want to make over my kitchen and bathroom and I’ve a few projects to do in the garden. What better way to keep up my photography practice and blogging skills than boring people with my domestic do-overs.

It all goes by so fast, before we know it, it will be back to school for everyone. But there’s so much to look forward to – some fine weather would be the icing on the cake.

*I absolutely do care. I worked my ass off this year, if I don’t get top marks all round, words will be had…..

(Meet Donny – you’re welcome 😊)

With a non-verbal child you become accustomed to watching out for signs. Sé feels pain the same as everybody else, but he doesn’t know how to express it, so we watch him and mind him and do our best. Right now, he’s got something brewing. How do I know? Because he’s being nice and helpful….

    And breathe

It’s been a lot. Christmas, a birthday, everyone has had coughs and colds and sore throats. We’ve all been home for too long. We’ve done our best to get out in the fresh air every day, but the weather has been shite and it has been a chore.   I breathed a huge sigh of relief…

  • Skerries

I had the occasion to visit Skerries this weekend. Its been a long time since I’ve been, so it was lovely to revisit a place that is full of childhood memories. My grandmother’s people were from Skerries and she inherited her Aunt Angie’s cottage in the town so I spent many summers there with my…

    Poetry anyone?

I’m not really a poetry person – I could never get into the poetry I studied in school, I found most of it impenetrable and boring. But I’ve loved Pam Ayers and, thanks to her, I’ve always remembered to Look After me Teeth.   I also have a favourite Haiku:  A Haiku about being an…
